I wish I remembered where I read it, but it was an article about the superiority of Roman mortar and how the mortar contributed to the survival of Roman architecture.

Exactly, I’ve read that it was previously thought volcanic ash was the reason it differs but now it is thought that lime clasts in the concrete have helped it self heal. Fascinating!
